What Happened & Why We Need Your Help!

Ok here is the low-down.  A dog I have been looking after (Puck) who I love very much does not get along with my old boy Bacchus.

(L) Puckster (R) Baxter

For 3 years we have had to successfully keep them separated.  Unfortunately In sept my roomie accidentally and regrettfully let Bacchus out in the backyard thinking Puck was in my room (we used to switch them out and each dog would sleep in one or the others bed at night so they both got love and attn).  Puck is a very young and agile pitbull.  He has had a blood lust for my dog for territorial reasons since he turned 9mths.  He is not a bad dog to people, but he wants Bacchus dead.

Since we took him in we have been trying to make arrangements to find him somewhere else to stay and since the last fight get him to his rightful owner in Portland... but in the meantime another roomie was making the nice gesture of giving Puck a treat and saying good night when he caught her by suprise and barged through the back door and went straight for Bacchus in the living room.  It took very desparate measures to get him off Bacchus.  My roomie got bit trying to break up the fight and she couldn't use her own brute strength to break it up, she grabbed the nearest guitar on the wall and hit him with it several times... water didnt work, all the tricks in the book wouldnt work, think about a poor girl in her pj's about to go to bed trying to break up a pitbull fight at 1am!  She was desparate and grabbed a knife, he was stabbed several times.  This also did not work, think slasher movie where the attacker just wont stay down.  The neighbors rushed over... my roomies had the dogs each by their hind legs and the neighbor used a shovel to separate Puck from Bacchus bottom jaw.  Keeping in mind Puck had been beaten and stabbed and still wasn't letting go of Bacchus.  He lost his grip and was put outside.

I came home and saw Puck bleeding to death in my backyard.  Because his wounds were serious I did not hesitate to have the neighbor help me roll him onto a sheet and we transferred him from the cold wet grass to the back of my truck.  I grabbed towels and tried to stem the blood from his wounds.  Jess put Bacchus in her car and we raced to TLC 24 hour emergency vet in Pasadena, where they had staff waiting outside for us to get the dogs into the ER.  My other roomie was at ER herself getting 16 stitches in her hand.

The Dr came out and told me what needed to be done and gave me the estimate.  This killed me!  $4000 - $6000!!!!!  I didnt know how I was going to pay this, but I told her to do what it would take to keep them both alive and whatever the cost I would make it happen!  She also advised me that based on Puck's history that he is a dangerous dog and recommended that he be euthanized as he was a liability.  She said she had to make that decision with one of her own dogs once and it was hard but she needed to be realistic.  You would think that after all the times over the years that he has tried to kill my baby that I would agree with her.  I kind of do, but I love that guy like he is my own.  I have often referred to him as my evil redheaded stepchild.  It was a term of endearment ofcourse.  However, he is not MY dog and it was not my decision to make and I knew that his dad would be heart broken if his dog didnt survive.  I am giving him the chance to take responsability for Puck and take him out of state to a home where he will be cared for and kept secured and to not put anyone else or their dogs at risk again.  He is a great dog, really I want to convince you of that.  I would post pics of him up here too, but they are too graphic.... however he is actually doing better than my dog right now, he is younger and more resiliant than my 10 year old.  It just really breaks my heart that this has happened to them.  I did not move to America with my dog to have him mauled and mutilated.

Bacchus has nearly lost the same ear twice.  He has no bottom front teeth, his canine was fractured and only half of it exists in his mouth and needs to be extracted still & will cost further time, $ and healing. He has numerous stitched up wounds on his neck and face and legs, he nearly lost his bottom lip, the Dr had to sew his gums to bring his lip back up.    None of us deserved this!  My dog is at home right now, he has busted a few sutures in his gums and his lip is drooping as you can see in the pics below.  I have made an appointment tomorrow to get that fixed.  More $$$.

Puck is doing fantastic.  I even walked him the day after the fight.  When I transfered him to a cheaper vet for boarding he jumped in the car and dragged me around like he always does when I walked him, he's strong as an ox and lucky to be alive. (I'm glad he is)

I know it is close to xmas, and so many good and unexpected friends have already made generous donations... I am still in the woods and I am begging more of you to donate $5 or more to help me out.  This couldnt happen at a worse time for all of us but after already spending over $1000 on the Sept fight and now this one is already up to $4300 after tomorrow, I am really asking for help.  Im not going to be proud and try to do this on my own.  I can't Im going to f**kin go insane if I take this burden on alone.  So please just click on the link below and help me and my dogs.  I really do appreciate it and to those of you who have donated, you are my dogs guardian angels and we all thank you so much for your generosity... some of you I cant even identify due to real names and emails.  So thank you again from the bottom of my heart.

I just want to thank the staff @ TLC Emergency 24 hour clinic in Pasadena for such amazing service.  Their staff cares and they were even waiting outside for us when we arrived with the dogs, they acted quickly and did what it took to nurse the boys back to health.  I am so grateful I can't even express how much I am in words.

here are some pics of Bacchus I took tonight 12/2/07.  I would post the ones I took of Puck, but I dont think they are appropriate enough, he looks pretty bad, although so do these but out of respect for my roomie and his real owner I wont.

Speaking of my roomie,  Thank you so much for saving my dog.  I know you love him like he is your own.  I'm sorry you were put in the position to have to deal with this... I am so sorry you are bearing the guilt of what you did to save Bacchus, but your intentions were purely desperate and a last resort to save our boy from a fate inevitable if you didn't intervene.  Please don't carry this guilt.  You are a wonderful protective mother to Bacchus and you were with Puck too, it is not your fault this happened.  He still should not have been here.  He is still alive and to be honest I don't even think he knows he is even hurt.  So please, work through your grief and take pride in your courage to do what you felt necessary.  You know I had convinced myself that I was coming home to a dead bacchus when I was driving home after the call.  I'm so sorry you went through all this.  THANK YOU  for being Bacchus' HERO!  XO

Above are pics of his condition from his most recent attack. Dec 1, 2007

The above pics are from the September attack... he had barely recovered from this one when he got attacked again.

The above pics are him before the last two fights, he is still beautiful to me now though.

For those of you concerned that the costs are legitimate or not, I have a pic of the invoice below.  The $2600 is for the one dog and the $1500 is for Bacchus and the total is actually now more than $4100 due to boarding and having to take Bacchus back tomorrow to have his lip stitched back up (gums are wet and hard to keep sutured).
